Current projects

Hi everyone!
I am regularly asked what projects I am working on. Every author who is asked this question will have a little smile on his face: there are always too many projects in our heads! I think that at the moment, I have 3 or 4 projects that are in the process of being written, in addition to the ten others that are waiting in the drawer. Well, in the computer folder. You get the picture.
Out of my 4 current projects, 2 occupy more my daily life.
The first project is a collaboration between two other authors and me. We started working on it several months ago, but we started by brainstorming and working on a plan. Working with other authors requires a lot of attention to detail and planning. We all need to be on the same page (no pun intended). So, we start by creating the universe. Where does the action take place? What time period are we in? What do the buildings look like? These are questions that we sometimes ask ourselves less when we work alone, because the answers come to us instinctively as we write. In a collaboration, we can't each improvise, otherwise our books will be full of incoherence.
Then there are the characters. Who are they? What do they do? You know, those things we had to prepare in grade school for an essay... they're still useful!
Once the world and characters are created, I think the rest of it starts to fall into place little by little. We each write our own novel, so we maintain control over what we want to do. The action, the pitfalls, etc.
So here we are, the two authors and I have concluded this stage and are now writing our respective novels. I am currently writing chapter 8. At about 2000 words per chapter, I'll let you do the math. We're averaging about 50,000 words per book, so let's say about 30% of the work is done!
The second project that consumes my time is one that I started years ago. I think it started writing around the same time as Dévoria, my other collective, or shortly after we kicked it off. So, around... 2018, maybe? Yes, a few years, really.
It's a project that I'm particularly excited about. The characters have been living inside me since the very beginning and inspire me to write without thinking. I want to make this story 4 volumes. It's an ambitious idea, but it's the dream I have right now. My first series, L'ennemie de Sylfar, was a trilogy (3 volumes). I then participated in a collective, Dévoria, in which I also discovered what it is to write a single volume. I then repeated the experience with Objectif Trésor, this time a little more in the youth. In short, all this to say: I have never done a 4-volume series!
Many good series of my childhood had at least 4 volumes. And by at least, I mean 6 to 10 volumes, most of the time, and sometimes more. You have to get to know the characters well, get familiar with the universe, get attached to this whole world that appears before your eyes one page at a time.
I have finished the first volume of this series which fascinates me. I am also well advanced in the second opus, I am more than halfway through. Which brings me to the second goal I have set for myself with this series. Not only do I want to do 4 volumes, but I also want to break the 100,000 word mark in a novel! I've never reached that goal before, my longest novel being Devoria - Le Druide de la Vallée, which is 80,000 words.
For this new series, I've decided to go step by step towards my goal: the first volume is 60,000 words, and I'm aiming for 80,000 for volume 2, 100,000 for volume 3 and 120,000 for volume 4. I'm not used to it and I know it's not going to be easy, but I'm very hopeful that I can do it!
So, for now, these are my two main projects. For those curious, my other two projects in the writing process are a story I started at the same time as L'ennemie de Sylfar 3 (2017-2018), as well as the sequel to one of my works. I say sequel, but I don't know if I'll try to get it published. Let's just say it's always nice to catch up with a few characters from the past... I'll leave it at that!
See ya!
